FLEET MANAGEMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Lee County Fleet Management is the only Florida county to obtain 100 percent non-hazardous waste generating status.  In order to achieve this status the following procedures had to be put into place and are maintained on a daily basis:

  • Change their parts cleaning system
  • Recycle their used antifreeze on site
  • Reuse their freon
  • Eliminate chlorinated aerosol cleaners
  • Recycle their lead acid batteries and lead tire weights
  • Provide separate catch containers for individual fluids to eliminate the       additional costs as a result of cross contamination
  • Ensure proper labeling of all storage containers
  • Establish and maintains a recordkeeping system for testing and disposal of waste streams

Please note: Fleet Management does not receive any hazardous products or materials from any outside agencies for disposal.

For further information on disposal of hazardous material or general environmental issues, you may contact Lee County Department of Solid Waste or visit the Lee County Solid Waste site.
