WELCOME TO LEE COUNTY CONTRACTOR LICENSING

Contractors wishing to perform work or contract to perform work within Unincorporated Lee County must be in compliance with F.S. Ch. 489, Lee County Ordinance 00-26, Lee county AC12-6, and the Lee County Tax Collector.
 


To perform work in Unincorporated Lee County Contractors must have a State issued License which is registered in Lee County OR a Certificate of Competency (a.k.a. Local License) which is applied for and issued through Lee County.

Þ       To view a list of Certificates of Competency currently available in Unincorporated Lee County please click here. Below is an overview of the process to acquire a Lee County Certificate of Competency:   

  1. Examination and Sponsorship:  Apply for sponsorship with Lee County to take the exam(s) for the desired Certificate of Competency and provide to Lee County passing scores of 75% or greater; OR provide Lee County with exam results for an equivalent exam taken in another jurisdiction within the last five years. Lee County will accept exam results older then 5 years, if the applicant is actively providing the type of service covered by the certificate of competency sought and the applicant has been engaged in providing these services for at least two years prior to application. The applicant must be able to prove that he took and passed an appropriate exam that is older than 5 years.

  2. Application: Submit a completed application along with all requirements to Lee County.

  3. Board Hearing: Attend a scheduled board hearing (currently meeting once a month) the Board must approve your application before a license can be issued.

  4. Insurance and Fees: After board approval, you will need to provide additional insurance documentation and submit the Certificate of Competency fee.   5. Issuance: You will be issued a Certificate of Competency which will be required to be renewed yearly on September 30.
