Holocaust-era Boxcar Displayed at East County Regional Library

Fort Myers, FL; November 18, 2008

The East County Regional Library, in partnership with the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida, is pleased to host the Museum’s authentic Holocaust-era Boxcar from November 21 through December 1, 2008.

Visitors are welcome to step into the boxcar for a tour – which features 12 panels illustrating the devastation of the Holocaust along with other past and present genocides. Six panels cover deportation during the Holocaust; six cover other genocides throughout history. A flat screen TV shows a two minute continuous loop of historic footage of deportations.

According to the Museum’s website, www.hmsefl.org, “A rare artifact, this boxcar is an invaluable and mobile educational tool to support the Museum’s mission of ‘promoting tolerance and understanding by teaching the history and lessons of the Holocaust.’ Currently, only six others exist in the United States.”

We hope that all members of the Southwest Florida community will take advantage of this opportunity and stop by the East County Regional Library at 881 Gunnery Road, Lehigh Acres to visit the Holocaust-era Boxcar and to learn more about thee Holocaust.
