Librarians' Toolbox

Ever wonder how librarians get the answers to all your questions? Since July 2005, we have featured some of the reference tools available to Lee County Library cardholders at home or from inside the library.

Mango Languages

The increasing importance of foreign language knowledge is more evident today in our Global Community than ever before. Mango Languages provides interactive audio and visual cues to help build understanding and correct pronunciation. Users can learn through real conversations that are broken down into simple blocks of learning material. Color coded translations for phrases and sentences are presented on screen so that a user can clearly see what words and phrases in the language being learned mean in their native language.

Mango Languages is web based, requires no installation, no downloads, and can be accessed remotely from the comfort of home or anywhere convenient to users.

Languages offered by Lee County Library System include:

Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish.

Mango Languages is also fully equipped with English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for people who speak Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, or Russian.

As a Lee County Library System card holder, users can access Mango Languages from our library home page http://www.lee-county.com/library.  Begin by highlighting the “Research and Tools” menu to the left of the homepage. Then select “Databases A-Z”. An alphabetical list of e-resource subjects will display. Scroll to and select “Mango Languages” and then choose a language.
