Sharyn McCrumb graduated from the University of North Carolina and received her M.A. in English from Virginia Tech. She taught journalism and Appalachian studies at Virginia Tech and was also a newspaper reporter until deciding to devote her time to writing. Although best known for her Ballad series, which is set in Appalachia, McCrumb has also dabbled with science fiction, and is the author of the Elizabeth McPherson series, about a forensic anthropologist and the newly released “St. Dale”. This New York Times bestselling author has received awards for Best Appalachian Novel and Most Notable Book of the Year, as well as the Agatha, Anthony, Edgar, Macavity and Nero Awards. In addition to participating in a panel discussion at the Lee County/Southwest Florida Reading Festival, Sharyn will also present a "Words and Music" program with musician partner Jack Hinshelwood.
