Bonita Beach Nourishment

(Little Hickory Island)

Project Description

The project consists of the nourishments of  approximately 4,100 feet of critically eroded shoreline on the northern portion of Little Hickory Island, from Big Hickory Pass at the north end of the island to approximately R-230 , or approximately 500 feet south of Lee County Beach Access 9.

A fill volume of 150,000 cubic yards of beach compatible material is proposed to be dredged from the Big Carlos Pass ebb shoal and mechanically placed on the shoreline of Little Hickory Island. The project includes dune vegetation and the construction of pedestrian walkovers. The walkovers will provide access to the sandy beach without harming the dune or dune vegetation.

The project is a maintenance event from the 1995 restoration of the same project area. The 1995 project was placed approximately 217,000 cubic yards of material on the Bonita Beach; an constructed 2 terminal groins at the north end of the island.

The project area is developed into approximately 3,590 linear feet of multifamily development, 202 feet of hotel property, and 250 linear feet of public park.
